  • Bahraini people have a thriving interest in both traditional and modern contemporary art forms. These include music, poetry, painting, sculpture etc.

    Bahrain National Museum
    The Bahrain National Museum is located in Manama, and it tells the story of Bahrain’s long history – from pre-historic times through to the present day.

    It is very well designed, and the exhibits are clearly presented. There are glimpses of the distant past with ancient burial sites in the Hall of Graves room, displays illustrating their history of pearl fishing, and imaginative exhibits showing the traditional life-cycle of people from birth, schooling, marriage and family life. There is also a special section on calligraphy and historical documents.


    The museum also features special international exhibitions on a regular basis.

    The museum is open daily, from 8am to 8pm.

    Beit al Qur’ran Museum

    This museum specialises in rare islamic manuscripts and related works of art. It also houses a unique collection intricately decorated, hand-written Qurans.

    It hosts permanent and visiting exhibitions, is involved in the conservation and restoration of manuscripts, the publication of books, research and the sponsorship of cultural activities, lectures ans seminars.

    The building also houses the Al Rahman Mosque, a library and lecture hall.

    It is located in Manama, opposite to the Diplomat Hotel.

    The institution was founded by Dr. Abdul Latif Jassim Kanoo.

    Opening hours: 09:00 to 12:00 and 16:00 to 18:00 Thursday afternoon & Fridays it is closed.

    The Art Centre
    This hosts regular exhibitions from both local and international artists.

    It is located not far from the Bahrain National Museum, nr. Al Fateh highway in Manama.

    Arabesque Art Gallery
    This hosts a wide range of original works and prints for sale. It also has silkscreens, lithographs, engravings and antique maps. They also run art classes.

    The gallery also has a shop in the Al Ali shopping centre.

    It is located in Manama, off the Umm al Hassam Avenue.

    Daily times: 08:00 to 19:00, and it is closed on Fridays.

    La Fontaine Centre for Contemporary Art

    This centre holds regular exhibitions of paintings, photograps, architecture and sculptures.

    The centre also includes a beauty spa and French restaurant.

    It is located at 92, Hoora Avenue, Ras Romman, Manama.
